Detailed model description

The DF series sorters are multi-level systems that allow for the use of different sorting programs at each level. If the product being sorted has different grades into which the input material must be divided, the multi-level sorter offers flexibility and efficiency unmatched by other systems. Despite its considerable size, it also provides significant space savings for the same process. The system is designed for material fractions ranging from less than 1 to 20 mm.

DF series sorters are great for sorting mixed color plastics or spices or leaves that can be divided into classes such as tea or tobacco. Each level of the machine is programmed independently and allows adjusting sorting parameters to the customer’s needs.

Recognition technology powered by artificial intelligence based on a large neural network model accurately identifies subtle differences in color, shape, size and structure, comprehensively improving the ability to sort materials and remove contaminants at every level of the machine.

Adapted to light materials

The internal design of the DF series sorter minimizes the effects of material flow dispersion within the machine due to its low weight and air resistance, as well as the high number of shots from the pneumatic reject system. This is particularly important for lightweight materials such as plastic flakes or marjoram leaves. Minimizing the effects of blowing and material dispersion reduces reject and improves sorting efficiency.

Training by Smartsort Company

Optimization of a sorting proces is never a one-time operation, concluded with purchase installation and commissioning of devices, but rather it is a continuous process requiring proper handling of equipment, responding to periodic changes in production conditions and market conditions, and ultimately it is also dependent on the appropriate level of personnel training.

Furthermore, modernization of an existing part of the production line or installation of a new one, with parameters closer to the optimum brings with it the possibility of change to some parameters in another section of production.

Good to know – important information

Bulk materials for which we implement our sorting systems are subject to change across individual batches delivered to the plant, either year by year, or due to sourcing from different suppliers. Assumed sorting goals may also change when there is a demand, for example, for a higher- or lower-class product. In each of these cases, a single optimization criterion remains constant: as much material as possible is to be recovered and brought to a saleable condition. Therefore, we offer audit or training services tailored to the needs of each client.

Audit plan

A service engineer optimizes sorting programs for current conditions and those predicted in the production plan for the near future. This is an alternative to training plant employees to higher levels of advancement in equipment operation, limiting their duties to selecting appropriate sorting programs.

This is an excellent solution for industries where it is difficult to find suitable operators, or production employees often change positions.

Training plan

Having qualified staff to operate specialized equipment is an invaluable asset for any production plant where many different types of bulk products are sorted, they come from various sources, or production goals are subject to change.

In such cases, an employee or employees with a permanent position are usually delegated to operate the devices, for whom we can conduct training both at the employee’s plant and at our facility.

Mixed plan

Depending on individual abilities and available time, full training of independent operators handling an optical sorter can take a significant amount of time. During this period, the line’s output parameters cannot be lowered. In such situations, we suggest combining training with conducting audits at the plant.

Moreover, even proficient operators will perform better at optimizing the line’s operation during an audit, under the supervision of an experienced SmartSort engineer, even if those were to take place at a greater time interval.
